“Are you british?” - Resorts 2017 (Carlin Creative Trend Bureau)

Published

If the word « resort » automatically evokes a world full of hedonism and sun to you, made to escape during autumn or the Western winter (which was, we remind you , the initial vocation of the « cruise » collections) well than sit it out !

Because what is awaiting you, is the English country-side, somewhere between Costwolds and Devonshire; in fact, for a far and exotic destination, we will push up till the Hamptons, on the American East Coast, but no further than that.

This season the most remarkable designers have shown up the anglophily, developing the « British Cool » in all its variations:

The questioning of the collection- calendar, the buzz around the « see now, buy now » has considerably put on a smoke screen over the usage and buying periods of these mid-seasonal collections, quite different according to the Houses and their clientele. One thing is for sure, we can no longer talk about « cruising » here, but more about updating, focused on the clients needs.

So even if Vuitton takes us to Rio and Chanel to Cuba, it’s Dior and his young designer duo that signs one of the major influences of the resorts 2017 collections, the « British attitude » including the omnipresence of flowers in an English Garden style:

But beyond the floral patterns, there is also this typical British silhouette that evokes Kate Middleton, contemporary synthesis of the middle class and the aristocrat, made of little coats, conventional proportions, acid colors, with yellow as the guest-star :

What is charming is that even the Italian designers are part of it like Alessandro del Aqua for Rochas or Bottega Veneta, while at Valentino Red we can see the influence of the movie Grey Gardens, that tells the decadence of 2 old eccentric ladies in the Hamptons. As for Angelo Michele for Gucci, he gives free rein to his anglophily while presenting his collection in the Westminster Abbey, amusing himself with the English fashion-codes…without any fear of kitch!!
