Yoox has launched what it said is an “unprecedented collaboration” with Nigerian designer Folake Kuye and her brand FKSP via a new capsule collection available exclusively on the website.

It’s a collaboration born through a mentorship programme led by Federico Marchetti, Chairman of parent company Yoox Net-A-Porter Group, for aspiring entrepreneurs from backgrounds traditionally under-represented in the fashion sector.

The company said the programme is helping it respond to the People Positive commitment area of its 2030 sustainability strategy, Infinity. That includes a pledge to “use its platforms and global influence to amplify and accelerate campaigns, organisations, businesses and individuals that champion an inclusive world for the fashion industry".

This is the kind of initiative increasingly being seen from a number of big companies as they link up with smaller designer labels. And in terms of helping to encourage younger talent in the fashion sector, YNAP’s Net-A-Porter luxury e-tailer has also been involved in advancing younger designers through its own Vanguard programme.

Meanwhile, the new FKSP x Yoox collection features “maxi dresses, hyper-feminine brightly-coloured tops and trousers, as well as jumpsuits with floral prints” with a look and feel that reflects the brand’s “sunny” Los Angeles outlook.

The company said they’re “accessible pieces with a modern retro feel, perfect for spring and beyond”.

It focuses mainly on “details and on a careful and accurate construction: billowy sleeves, cinched-waists, crisp pleating and floral prints among the mix – a look for every mood”. The silhouettes are “soft and vintage-inspired and recall retro-style elements, reinterpreted in a modern way”.
