THG appoints media expert Farr as a non-exec director

Digital retailer THG has appointed marketing and advertising veteran Sue Farr as a Senior Independent Director with immediate effect.

The “highly experienced” FTSE 100, 250, Small-Cap and AIM board member has had a successful career in media, advertising and marketing, spending 16 years in various non-executive director roles.

Her current non-executive directorships include British American Tobacco, Lookers, Helical and Accsys Technologies.

Charles Allen, THG Independent Chair, said Farr “has had an impressive executive career across a number of consumer, media and marketing businesses, and has since gone on to demonstrate her skills as an experienced Senior Independent Director and committee Chair.

"Building on the progress made over the last 12 months, this appointment is consistent with the board's stated intention to continue to improve Corporate Governance and enhance its composition by improving independence and diversity.

However, that "progress" has been uneven with THG continuing to attract both positive and negative news on a regular basis. Last week saw a potential takeover approach for THG followed by investor disappointment in the company's results with its share price fluctuating wildly.

The company revealed an approach from Apollo Global Management, sending the share price rocketing, but news of a full-year pre-tax loss of £550 million a day later and a hefty level of debt caused the stock to plunge.
