Sporty fits, denim and neons: the top trends from New York Fashion Week: Men's

The first-ever New York Fashion Week: Men's has come and gone, leaving in its wake a trail of hot new trends for Spring/Summer 2016. Here are the top three you need to know about:

Loose lines
Tailoring is loose and nonchalant for next spring, with relaxed silhouettes owning the catwalk. Michael Kors led the way with his fashionably disheveled suits, comprising trousers featuring drawstring waists which almost pushed them into nightwear territory. He also rolled up hemlines and added feminine scarves to the outfits to keep things soft and fluid. New York label Ovadia & Sons adopted a similar approach, showcasing a collection rich in baggy shirts, while Tim Coppens also opted for slouchy, drawstring trousers, teamed with soft, sloppy-looking tees or knits on top.

Denim
Denim was everywhere on the catwalks, cropping up in jeans and shirts, but less predictably as a full-on three-piece suit. That was courtesy of Polo Ralph Lauren, and was just one of the US designer's many inventive ways of making formalwear more casual. Denim-look blazers were on show at US label Michael Bastian, whose collection also featured chunky denim jackets and shorts with distressed rolled-up hems. The designer also paired a black tux jacket and bow tie with a denim shirt for a playful aesthetic.

Neon
Fluorescent colors adorned the pieces at Tim Coppens, where basic grey tees were livened up with splashes of neon orange and crisp white parkas given the contrast pocket treatment. There were flashes of neon at Polo Ralph Lauren in the sporty green and orange tank tops, while Tommy Hilfiger used bright yellow outwear to spruce up his classic American color palette.
