Scotch & Soda launches capsule collection with Abel Macias

Amsterdam-based lifestyle and fashion brand Scotch & Soda announced on Monday the launch of a Summer 2022 capsule collection, made in collaboration with American artist Abel Macias. 

The painter, illustrator, designer and art director, who started her art career back in 2007 in New York City, is well-known for her work based in folk art and influenced by nature, landscapes and everyday kind of objects.

The capsule collection includes styles for women, men and kids, and is characterized by Macias’ bright hand-painted prints and graphics rooted in desert landscapes, colourful cacti and vibrant sunsets. 

In particular, for women, the capsule features casual items like graphic t-shirts, denim shorts with embroidered rising suns, sweatshirts and a hoodie in bold or gradient colours. It also puts the focus on sustainability with a selection of styles in organic cotton, such as a belted beach caftan, a midi-length wrap skirt, a Hawaiian shirt and a bandana scarf. 

For men, statement styles include short-sleeved shirts and recycled polyester swim shorts with colourful all-over prints. The LA-based artist’s signature graphics can also be found on organic cotton t-shirts in vivid hues of coral, azure, spearmint and magenta. 

Finally, vibrant sunsets and desert landscapes makeup kidswear styles, such as on an organic cotton kaftan dress for girls and a short sleeved shirt for boys, which pairs with matching swim shorts. Macias’ optimistic mantra ‘The sun comes up’ is available across sweatshirts and as placement graphics on organic cotton t-shirts, as well as on a UV-activated gradient print at the back of a boys’ t-shirt, revealing itself upon exposure to sunlight.

The collection launches with bespoke window displays for a selection of the brand’s stores across Europe and the United States. Moreover, a dedicated window showcasing the Scotch & Soda x Abel Macias capsule will be installed at the iconic De Bijenkorf department store in Amsterdam, during the first two weeks of May. 

Scotch & Soda collections can currently be found in 257 freestanding stores across Europe, North America, Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Australia, as well as in 7,000 doors in some of the world’s biggest cities, including New York, London and Paris. The brand’s online operations also ship to over 70 countries.
