Sales for Spanish label Scalpers grow 60% to €47 million in H1

Seville-based Spanish label Scalpers is recovering from the adverse effects of the pandemic. In the first six months of 2021, Scalpers generated a total revenue of €47 million. A figure equivalent to a 60% growth over the same period last year, and to a 21% increase over the sales figure recorded in the first 6 months of 2019.

Scalpers

“This is good news for the company, since we have not only recovered from the shortfall caused by the market situation and restrictions resulting from the pandemic, but also because we recorded a double-digit sales increase over 2019,” said Scalpers, announcing the results in a press release published on Tuesday July 20.

The e-tail channel accounted for 26% of Scalpers’s total revenue, equivalent to a 48% growth over the same period the previous year, and a 170% one over the same period two years ago. According to Scalpers, this performance was due to the “constant growth” of the label's online sales, to the “sustained expansion of the e-tail channel in Spain, via websites like that of [department store chain] El Corte Inglés,” as well as to Scalpers’s sales through international multibrand retailers in Europe, Turkey, India and Russia.

In addition, Scalpers has leveraged the online channel’s fast-paced expansion by launching ‘Invited Brands’, a multibrand marketplace featured on its website, where Scalpers sells products by 64 other brands, such as Sebago, Converse, Havaianas, New Balance, Foreo, Everlast and Under Armor.

Women’s, children’s lines successful

As reported by Scalpers, these results are directly linked to the performance of one of the label's “main ventures,” the womenswear line that was launched in 2018. During the first half of the year, this category doubled its sales compared to the year before the pandemic’s outbreak, recording a 100.6% increase. Currently, Scalpers Woman accounts for a 15% share of the company's total revenue (as opposed to 9% in 2019), and operates 50 monobrand stores of its own. In addition, Scalpers intends to expand the number of concessions exclusively dedicated to its women's accessories, adding to the four it already operates at the Corte Inglés branches on Mallorca Avenida, Sevilla Duque, Pozuelo and Sanchinarro in Madrid.

Finally, revenue for the children's line grew by 15% compared to 2019, and accounted for 5% of total sales. Currently commercialised via Scalpers’s e-shop and 22 El Corte Inglés branches, the children's line has just opened its first monobrand store at 21 calle Ayala in Madrid.

Scalpers is present in 8 countries with over 200 stores, and currently employs more than 800 people. The label was founded in 2007 and is led by Borja Vázquez and Alfonso Vivancos. In 2020, its revenue fell by 13% to €72 million.
