Öny, the streetwear label blending denim and African waxprint

For the past two years, Esmod graduate Audrey Jouanny has offered via her label Öny a selection of unique hybrid pieces, combining vibrant batik motifs from African waxprints with a raw denim edge.

Looks from Öny’s AW 16/17 collection - Öny

Inspired by a trip to London, Audrey Jouanny became an aficionado of baggy cuts and comfortable ready-to-wear, styles that she was keen to transpose to her high-end streetwear label. The garments, including long blouses, trousers, tops, and coats, are as well-suited to a masculine wardrobe as to a feminine one, underlying the designer’s desire to maintain a co-ed feel.

Today, each garment is made by hand in France but the team is readying itself to launch mass-production in order to expand its distribution network, all the while maintaining its quality.

Currently, the Öny creations are available exclusively through the label’s eponymous e-store and at designer pop-ups, with prices ranging from 200 to 700 euros.

The aim is ‘to make a name [for Öny] in Paris and then little by little abroad,’ according to a spokesperson for the label. In the next step towards this goal, the label is targeting Parisian concept stores like L’Eclaireur, Merci, Tom Greyhound and The Broken Arm.
