New Look confirms plan to cut HQ jobs

Published
Mar 22, 2023

New Look is continuing its rationalisation programme with news of head office redundancies and the fashion retailer citing its repositioning to a more balanced omnichannel platform.

New Look, Liverpool One

Around 70 jobs at its offices in London and Weymouth are understood to be at risk, with New Look saying redundancies are a result of the brand stepping up its online focus while reducing its store estate. The retailer currently employs around 1,200 people across its operations.

A spokesperson for New Look said that it “has changed significantly in recent years, having accelerated our e-commerce business and reduced our store estate. As such, we have reviewed our operating model and structures, and we are making certain changes to our ways of working, to better reflect and support the growth of our omnichannel business. As part of this, we are proposing changes to our team structures, which regrettably, we expect to impact some roles at our Weymouth and London support centres.

“We will shortly be entering a consultation period with affected colleagues and our priority is to support them during this time.”

The latest cuts come after New Look also revealed earlier this year that it was looking to cut 500 roles at its main distribution centre at Lymedale, Newcastle Under Lyme. The retailer said it was hoping to re-employ some of the employees affected as it hires an extra 300 staff on an expanded day shift.

And it recently revealed it’s shutting around seven stores, although it said this was part of normal business, with two also being opened before Christmas 2022.
