Kenzo, AMI to unveil next collections outside Paris Fashion Week calendar

The fashion weeks for the next womenswear collections have started their seasonal sequence in New York, and will hand over the baton to London in a few days. In the meantime, two more names have dropped out of the official calendar for the forthcoming Paris Fashion Week: Kenzo and AMI.

In a brief communiqué issued on Monday, Kenzo announced that it will present the Fall/Winter 2021-22 collection via a video to be released on March 26, in other words outside the official Parisian calendar of the women's ready-to-wear shows, scheduled on March 1-9.

In the video, Kenzo's Creative Director Felipe Oliveira Baptista “will pay tribute to the contagious energy and the unfettered, visionary spirit of Kenzo Takada,” founder of the label now owned by LVMH. Kenzo gave no further explanation about the choice of date, simply underlining it chose the end of March, “the dawn of spring, celebrating Nature's new awakening, with its flourishing colours and the feeling of optimism that marks every new beginning.”

AMI will instead unveil its latest men's and women's collection a couple of days after the end of the Paris Fashion Week. Designer Alexandre Mattiussi, a regular on the Paris menswear catwalks, has been unable to finish his collection and produce a video for it in time this season. Hence the postponement and the unusual date of March 11.

This year, Mattiussi is celebrating the tenth anniversary of his label's presence on the Paris catwalks, and has promised he will present “a major” collection.
