Jigsaw withdraws from Australia

Jigsaw has closed its stores and e-tail site in Australia to focus on its operations in the UK. The British clothing brand said the decision to exit Australia was due to the coronavirus crisis.

“It’s time to say goodbye. After many wonderful years, Jigsaw London will be closing its doors,” the Australian arm of the business said in a statement on its website. 

“Due to exceptional circumstances the business has made the difficult decision to close its Australian division to simplify its business. 

“The coronavirus outbreak has had a severe impact on retailers around the world. While the pandemic continues, we will simplify our business by focusing on our home market in the UK.”

Jigsaw operated three stores in Australia, in Canberra, Sydney and Adelaide. The shops shut down permanently on 29 May as well as the e-commerce store.

There are three further international Jigsaw stores in Ireland and Singapore.

Meanwhile in the UK, the retailer is preparing to reopen 33 of its 74 stores from 15 June. A number of measures will be put in place to protect staff and customers during the pandemic, including limiting the number of customers allowed in store at any one time. 

Fitting rooms will be open but access will be limited and customers will be able to place orders over the phone with a collection service at the door.
