Jenner, Hilton, Bieber are key wedding trend drivers in 2022

This week has offered up some significant indicators of wedding style directions with one coming from the Met Gala red carpet while there are also more general standout pointers being seen in 2022.

It seems that Kylie Jenner’s Met Gala appearance has kicked off a key trend. Analysis of Google search data by Wealth of Geeks showed that online searches for Off-White Wedding Dress surged 733% just hours after Jenner walked the red carpet at the event.

The dress took inspiration from the late Virgil Abloh’s AW22 collection and featured a tiered ruffle skirt and mesh bodice. It was teamed with a baseball cap and veil, the latter driving a 655% rise in searches for Wedding Veils.

And it’s clear from other data (via Google Trends and Pinterest) that celebrity brides have been key in driving wedding trends in recent periods.

Wealth of Geeks also said that Paris Hilton and Hailey Bieber are the two most pinned brides of the last year on Pinterest. Hilton, who wore seven different dresses for her three-day extravaganza said her favourite was her Grace Kelly-inspired Oscar de la Renta dress. The custom gown with full skirt, lace and a high neck was searched for and pinned more than any other celebrity dress. 

Bieber’s dress took second place, despite her wedding having happened in 2018. She wore an off-the-shoulder neckline with a dramatic veil, also by Virgil Abloh. In the last month, her dress has had a 138% rise in interest on Pinterest.

That could also be connected to the overall popularity of off-the-shoulder styles with that neckline being the most searched for, rising 334% over a year.

In terms of material, lace remains the most popular option, however, chiffon has seen the biggest year-on-year rise in search volume and in the last year alone has seen a 675% increase in online interest.

It’s interesting too that wedding jumpsuits have also experienced high levels of interest, seeing a 60% rise.

And when it comes to hairstyles, the most popular is the half-up, half-down look. The simple style has been a celebrity favourite and has been heavily pinned on Pinterest. It has also enjoyed a global monthly search volume of 30,100.

The second most popular is a classic bun hairstyle, seeing a 95% rise in searches since the beginning of 2022.
