Jean Paul Gaultier presents Kokorico fragrance during Paris Couture Week

Published
Jul 11, 2011

Jean Paul Gaultier’s popular fragrance ‘Mâle’, whose product offering was largely extended since its launch, marked an “enfant terrible” era in the Parisian scene, symbolised by ear piercings and sailor shirts. Now, its new scent called ‘Kokorico’, which is technically the fashion house’s 2nd fragrance for men, represents change and a certain evolution from that time.

Presented during Paris Couture Week, Kokorico was launched with a blast. Members of the fashion press were first to have the opportunity to discover the new fragrance at the preview held after Jean Paul Gaultier’s catwalk show on Wednesday, 6th of July. Then, at the end of the day, a more “conventional” launch took place at the Gaïté Lyrique museum in Paris, without mentioning a broadcast of the show on a giant screen that happened over at the Gabriel Pavilion. BPI, the licenser of Jean Paul Gaultier’s perfume lines until 2016, seems to have high ambitions for this new fragrance, or this olfactory “cry” as Jean Paul Gaultier likes to call it, counting on 2,000 points of sale for its distribution. The French fashion house was recently acquired by Puig at the beginning of May.

Created by perfumers Olivier Cresp and Annick Menardo from Firmenich, Kokorico’s composition includes patchouli oil and vetiver. As for the bottle, it looks like a sculpture of a male head from the side and is made of matte black glass. The perfume comes with a deodorant, shower gel and aftershave lotion.
