Halston biopic premiers on Netflix

A new limited series premiered on Netflix on Friday highlighting the life of legendary fashion designer Roy Halston, known simply as Halston. 

The five-episode mini series called 'Halston' is based on the life and times of the iconic American designer in 1970's New York and stars Ewan McGregor as the designer.

Produced by Emmy winner Ryan Murphy, the man behind 'Pose', 'The Assassination of Gianni Versace' and 'American Horror Story', with director Daniel Minahan behind the lens, it portrays the rapid rise and fall of the famed designer from his reinvention, fateful business deals, as well as nights of excess at Studio 54 and days fueled by cocaine. 

The biopic is not without controversy with the family of the late designer claiming that Murphy’s rendition is a little more than fiction. 

“The Halston Archives and Family were not consulted on the upcoming Netflix series involving an inaccurate, fictionalized account of famed fashion designer, 'Halston'," it said on an official press release.   

“The Halston Archives remains the only definitive and comprehensive source on the man and his legacy as the personally appointed custodian of his private papers and effects.” 

In conjunction with the statement, The Halston Archives announced the establishment of new fashion scholarships in Halston's name as a way to inspire and empower the next generation of American Fashion Designers, alongside a new product line based on original artwork that will fund the scholarship program.
