BFC Foundation awards scholarships to MA students, Central Saint Martins is strong

The British Fashion Council has announced the recipients of its 2020 MA Scholarship schemes, which benefit those who have an offer from or are currently studying for an MA at a partner college.

The organisation has been awarding MA scholarships since 1998, but it said supporting talent through education is now “more critical than ever”.

Chief executive Caroline Rush said: “We have been faced with truly the most impactful crisis of a generation and at this time, supporting and empowering upcoming talent is more important than ever.

“The BFC offers support to help young people at every level to realise their ability, ensuring the future growth and success of the British fashion industry. Academic scholarships provide young designers from all backgrounds with the opportunity to eventually work in the creative industries, paving the way for the future generations of talent.”

Applicants were assessed on the basis of talent and financial need by a panel of academics and industry representatives, including Sarah Mower, Alexander Fury, Amanda Harlech, Chioma Nnadi, Karen Binns, Libby Page, Orsola de Castro and Pierre A. M’Pelé.

This year’s recipients are Brandon Choi from Central Saint Martins, who was awarded the Chanel MA Scholarship; Natasha Sweeney from Central Saint Martins, who received the MA Final Year Scholarship; and Joe Pearson and Adam Alaoui Elyassé, also from Central Saint Martins, who were offered the Dior Men MA Scholarship.

Additionally, Dominic Huckbody from Central Saint Martins, Shanti Bell from the Royal College of Art, Jessan Macatangay from Central Saint Martins, Pearl Quist from the University of Salford and Edward Mendoza from Central Saint Martins were announced as recipients of the 2020 MA Full Scholarship.

11 BA scholarships have also been awarded, joining four current BA recipients.
