Barbara Calò succeeds Stefano Biondo as CEO of Marni

There is a change at the very top for Marni. CEO Stefano Biondo, who joined the Italian ready-to-wear label in May 2018, after working for 15 years at eyewear manufacturer Safilo, has left the company after a tenure of less than two years. His departure was announced in a brief press release, which provided no further explanation, by Renzo Rosso’s fashion group OTB, the owner of Marni.

Biondo is going to be replaced by Barbara Calò, who will be promoted to the post of CEO. She joined Marni in early 2016 as global omni-channel retail director.

Calò, according to her LinkedIn profile, has so far enjoyed a remarkable career in the world of fashion and retail distribution, working for labels like Prada, Jil Sander, Escada and Giorgio Armani, chiefly as retail director. As CEO of Marni, she will report to OTB’s group CEO Ubaldo Minelli.

Marni’s collections have been designed by Francesco Risso ever since the label’s founder Consuelo Castiglioni left in October 2016. Marni has an annual revenue of €170 million, over 60% of which is generated online and by its 76 directly run monobrand stores. As OTB underlined in the press release, the handbag and footwear categories are growing strongly for Marni, and account for 55% of its total sales.
